    | Probably wouldn’t recommend.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Dr. DeVore is one of the smartest men in the field of Chemistry. However, this does not make him the best professor. This course is really intended for chemistry majors. He is very thorough and goes through material very fast. I would recommend a background of high school chemistry for anyone wanting to go into his class, general ideas are expected to be understood.

    Course highlights:

I think the best part of surviving this course is the confidence I have in Chemistry. If you can handle this material and can learn to stop be intimidated by it then you have done half the work. I enjoy learning the physical chemistry that DeVore has such a rich background in. It is very rudimentary and explains certain phenomenon that had not been clear to me before this class.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

The final is cumulative and he does not give a study guide or equations. The material really is not hard but you have to learn it mostly on your own. The sapling homework he assigns is the best way to learn the technical problems so I recommend spending time on those and learning them rather than googling answers. Memorize equations. Do practice problems from the back of the book. And be aware that he usually uses problems he taught and takes them one step further on tests so understand every aspect.
