    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This course is amazing in developing writing skills and independent study methods. It is difficult and takes time and effort, but using resources such as teachers and peers makes it worthwhile. Having the ability to write an essay with a peer is completely beneficial in developing skills in cooperative work.

    Course highlights:

Highlights of the course include a classroom with a tight-knit community that has a lot of access to teachers and help. I learned that my writing can span different topics and still be personal and authentic to myself.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

You definitely need to stay on top of writing and getting drafts done. Also, make use of peer conferences and teacher conferences as they are really helpful even though they may seem redundant. Make use of your in-class work time.

    | No strong feelings either way.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Education in the writing process is always valuable. I would have like more instruction from the teacher. Our textbook was of limitted help. I enjoy writing; although, this course was frustrating becasue the process was never clear.

    Course highlights:

I learned through trial and error, the process and format of researching, organizing and writing various types of papers.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Read the teacher reviews and select the course based on those evaluations.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This class truly stretched me as a writer and forced me to confront and overcome my shortcomings. While it was a huge amount of work, it left me feeling prepared to write at the college level.

    Course highlights:

I now have a portfolio of academic writing in a variety of formats which I can share with prospective teachers and advisors, and I've also learned how to work as part of a writers' group.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

This course is very writing-heavy, so you should have an intrinsic love of the writing process in order to enjoy it. Stay on top of assignments. Your papers will be better from a series of half-hour editing sessions over the course of a week than from one all-night editing binge. And take advantage of peer groups office hours! Ms. Johnson makes herself extremely available, and your classmates provide a crucial outsider perspective, but it is up to you to seek out the help you need. Leave any pride or need for self-sufficiency at the door.
