    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Mr. Tofflelmier has achieved not only teaching me how to play the trumpet, but taught me how to love what I do. He is everything that I will ever aspire to be as a teacher in the sense that his job wasn't an inconvenience. He was so extremely knowledgeable, and a day of teaching was just another day at the office for him. Mr. Tofflemier has spent countless hours working individually with students, teaching them the all the basic and advanced skills that they need to be successful at auditions, and encourages his students to make an impact in the world through the power of music.

    Course highlights:

I gained a sense of self accountability through my experience in band. Coming from a band of about 45 people, it was very important that everyone play their parts, and no one hides underneath the tones. Each individual has unique melody, or sound to contribute to the piece as a whole, and it was up to each person to have their part prepared and ready to contribute that to the group. In this course, I learned time management. Music teaches you things that you can apply in a traditional classroom setting. It has been a tremendous help in math, a subject I have struggled in in the past.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

In order to succeed in this class, you must be willing to put in the time to practice your instrument, and be prepared to go out your comfort zone every now and then. There are going to be times where you are called on to play a part in front of the class, and maybe you mess it up a little bit, but that's okay. You must learn to use that as a constructive tool to make sure that you don't make the same mistakes when it comes to performance time.
