Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

It was a very practical course with elements that extend beyond your career. There is no denying that we live in a litigious society, therefore having a very basic understanding of contract and tort law can assist us in our everyday life. The American dream is to purchase a home. In realizing that dream there at least two contracts involved in the negotiations; a real estate contract and a mortgage agreement. Understanding the covenants of each will aid in the success of the transaction.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of the course was gaining insight into our legal defense in a contract and how both parties to the contract can protect themselves against default. I also learned how to carefully read legal documents, and effectively apply contract conditions to my area of study which was accounting and finance. The accounting profession in particular is governed by certain case law passed after litigation of certain offenses. For example the Sarbanes Oxley act was passed after the fall of Enron. It allows for the protection of investors from fraudulent accounting practices by corporations.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Students taking this course should be prepared for a lot of reading. You will also be required to read and know certain case law, and how they apply to the financial industry. This class covers areas applicable to accounting, auditing, and finance. It will also aid in business writing.
