Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The course is designed primarily for science major. It is hard, but, Dr. Humphries is really good. If a student pay close attention in class, study the notes, and attend office hours you will do very good in the class. I would recommend this course because the instructor knows what he is talking about and he has a passion for teaching it.

    Course highlights:

The course covers mostly the basis of general biology. I learned about the matter of life and a lot about genetic.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

My advice to any students thinking of taking this course is do not be afraid of a little challenge. the class is not easy but, if you take good notes you will be fine. Also, study the notes because everything that will be on the exam is in the notes.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This was the course that made me fall in love with biology. On top of this wildly-interesting course, Professor Ueda is extremely intelligent and teaches in such a way as to make Honors Biology the best class. Throughout the year, we students do great labs, and although they seem like they’re not important, one will quickly understand how important these can be and how much more it helps one to understand the information. Another amazing part of this course, was the fact that during a laboratory experiment, the professor let the students make mistakes (when applicable). This was in order to teach them what they had done wrong. These professors also have a such expansive knowledge base into the subject that they can explain everything you need to know and so much!

    Course highlights:

The highlights of this course were the molecular aspects. Professor Ueda uses his own knowledge and experiences to help explain things in ways one could never even imagine. When one sits in class, they’re awe-struck with the amazing things that go on in his world. This course makes me want to study further and continue to excel in Biology along with starting to get involved with research through similar topics.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Be sure to take notes from the book before every class. This will not only insure that you’ll be able to follow along, but you have a precedent in what will be discussed in the day to come. In addition, one should print out anything the professor posts online about the topic to help further knowledge understanding and note-taking. One should also peruse the lab book before class in order to excel.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Professor Palmtag is really great at explaining and restating topics so that everyone understands the best they can. It's a hard course no doubt, but the more engaged you are and the more opportunities you take advantage of, such as going to his office hours and getting extra help will get you to the grade you want and the grade you need.

    Course highlights:

Biology is one of those courses that you seriously can not slack off in. Going into the course I was genuinely nervous because I didn't do well when I took it back in high school. Professor Palmtag makes sure that everyone in class is getting the material. I think my favorite part of the course and the part that helped me most was my professor drawing diagrams on the white board. He really made it so that everyone of all learning styles could grasp the diagrams since they would always be on his exams. Theres a lot of material that you go over not just throughout the semester, but in each and every class meeting.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Definitely take advantage of office hours to look over tests and notes to better understand what you cant grasp and what is confusing you. Tutoring is your friend!! Getting the extra help from another student who passed the class with a high B or A can improve your overall grade.
