Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course especially to pre-medical and health students who want to learn more about the medical field and about the social aspects of medicine in order to be more well-rounded students and employees. This course would be great for future epidemiologists and those who want to work outside of the United States. Also, this course would be interesting to students who want to volunteer in other countries, especially to those who want to go on medical volunteer trips.

    Course highlights:

In this course, we learned about how anthropologist conduct medical research; the history behind public health (such as its colonial roots); what global health is; what biomedicine is versus what ethno-medicine is; what critical medical anthropology is; types of structural violence in medicine; reproductive health; sexual culture and the global HIV/AIDs epidemic and its industry; and perspectives on tobacco, alcohol, and drugs.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Be prepared to read at least 30 pages of text per week and to read two books. I would suggest taking this work in small chunks and just focusing on the general information for the exams.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This course gives an insight on different cultures and how they view certain diseases and behaviors. I think this course is important especially as an FIU student in order to ubderstand and therefore respect other cultures.

    Course highlights:

The books were quite interesting in introducing these unknown tribal cultures all around the world and gave insight on why they behaved and believed in what they did. I enjoyed the discussions in class, and through that I learned more about the world around us and especially how climate change is affecting the world even though it is not obvious her it is obvious in the very north of Canada

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

I think it is important to keep an open mind and keep up with reading of the class.
