    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Although this course was extremely difficult, Mr. VanGelder's enthusiasm and the interesting subject matter taught lead to a very fulfilling experience.

    Course highlights:

Through this course, I have learned many major trends in human history. I have also become a better writer thanks to Mr. VanGelder's assignments.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

You should probably read the required materials. Also, the Crash Courses™ on YouTube were extremely helpful, they helped me get a 5 on the AP test.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

By taking AP world History, I can say that I have a better understanding of the world around me. Also, Mr. Van Gelder makes the fast pace of the course bearable, while simultaneously making it fun.

    Course highlights:

I enjoyed the times when we learned about topics that we already knew about because we can get additional information. For example, we learned that the Chinese practice of footbinding was actually a way for men to keep women at home.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Stay on top of the course. Do not let yourself fall behind, and try to start reading the chapter before the school week starts.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This is by far the most difficult course I have ever taken. I was determined to succeed and that seemed to become more and more difficult as the weeks churned along. But I was willing to put in the work and in the end, the feeling of success made it all worth it.

    Course highlights:

I learned a general overview history of the world. The highlight of the course was about halfway through the year when I looked at how much work I had been doing each week and felt impressed that I was actually managing it. It was a great boost of confidence.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Read. Read the chapters, all of the chapters, and read every chapter. The AP book has some of the most interesting things you will have ever learned in school, but those are surrounded by globs and globs of the most boring things you've ever had to learn.
