Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This course challenged me greatly, but had significant guidance along the way. I have always had a fear of public speaking and through the speeches I had to give in this course, I was forced to overcome this fear in order to succeed. There are three speeches you must give in this course an informative speech, persuasive speech, and special occasion speech. The course is devised of many sections, so the classes you give speeches in front of are much smaller then the intimidation of a large lecture. The TA for the lecture in my section practiced activities that helped us get comfortable speaking with and in front of our classmates before we actually began to be graded on our speeches.

    Course highlights:

I think the best part of the course is that it focuses completely on speaking and addresses fears and anxieties that come along with it and how to overcome them. There is significant guidance on ways to become a better speaker and the actual experience of speaking in front of the class has become increasingly easier throughout the course. I felt as though I was forced, but with care to overcome a great fear of mine.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

I think entering the course you should really think about the benefits that it will leave you with in the long run before you even start your speeches. I had a dreadful attitude at first, where all I wanted was to get through each speech. However once I started noticing progress and realized that speaking had become easier, I came to appreciate the course in a new way. I would also suggest for students to prepare as much as they can for there speeches so the information flows well and they can focus more on their speech and delivery rather then being more worried about the facts.
