Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

If you can take a class with Kerry Evans, do it. He is a wonderful man with a lot of knowledge, and he taught me more useful things about writing poetry than any teacher or professor ever has. His lessons have significantly boosted my fiction writing as well.

    Course highlights:

I learned so much about how to write effective imagery and what makes a good poem. It's not about what you write about or how you write about it, it's what you say and how you say it. He taught me how to bring my readers into my poem and have them feel what I feel.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Show up to class! Listen to what Dr. Evans has to say, because I promise you'll learn something. Also, try really hard to apply his critiques to your future works for his class.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I loved this course so much. I would not consider myself a poet before taking this course and now I have several poems I am proud to have written. It expands your view of poetry and makes it more accessible.

    Course highlights:

I learned how to tap into my existing knowledge and my experiences of the world around me. I learned how to read poets and take aspects of their style to integrate into my own. This course did exactly what it was supposed to and taught me how to write poetry.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Walk in open minded and for the love of everything DO THE READINGS. Do the assignments and absorb everything that goes on even if it seems a little weird. Embrace the space outside of your comfort zone.
