    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

It's a weed out class for music majors, not question about it. If you're uncertain about music for your career, you'll probably find out if it's for you or not through this. As hard as it will be, I recommend the honors level with Dr. Rogers. She pushes you and grades rather harsh if you minorly slip up (prepare to see a -3 somewhere on your homework) but she makes the class so enjoyable and makes sure you are ready to be tested at anytime.

    Course highlights:

This class has a project in which you have to write a piece in the style of a college fight song. The best part of this project is hearing everyone's work and sometimes lyrics are written for it. It allows for a lot of creative freedom on part of the students and encourages them to think outside of the box.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Not really much to "consider", you have to take it. All I can say is prepare to become very comfortable with your textbook and utilize the tutors often, they're there for a reason. Also, don't hesitate to ask for help. So many people think asking for help shows weakness, but the tutors and Dr. Rogers love hearing from students who need the assistance, as they're the ones who are putting all the effort to make sure they succeed. Go see them if you need them, they don't bite.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Music theory II is not an easy class. It requires hard work and dedication that I simply did not posses or put in as a 2nd semester freshman.

    Course highlights:

I truly learned a lot from taking this course. As un-fun as it is, learning the basis of part writing is essential for any future career in music.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Go to tutoring! That is the most important thing I can say. The tutors are excellent, and they are there for a reason.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Stemke is an excellent teacher! The course material is super fun and with him teaching it, it's a lot of good stuff.

    Course highlights:

My favorite thing to learn was four-part writing because it teaches you how to make use of chords and embellishments in the context of a song.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Don't leave your homework for last minute. The four-part writing can take a while if you don't get it the first time.
