    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

It combines biology, chemistry, pathology, epidemiology, microbiology, genetics, and other advanced sciences that students would otherwise not be exposed to until college. It gave me laboratory skills and knowlegde that put me far ahead of some other students going into gen-ed college science courses.

    Course highlights:

I learned so much about genetics, DNA science, diseases, and cell biology that are not a part of high school science courses. I was able to combine some of my favorite science topics into a two year class. I learned so many skills that I can now use to get jobs or internships in research labs and in areas where other students would be unqualified to work. I found a level of science that challenged me every day while letting me explore my favorite topics such as chemistry and plant biology. We also had the opportunity to do a semester long independent research project during which we could use the lab and equipment on our own time to conduct our own research on a topic of our choice.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Pay attention and take notes, but don’t overanalyze every detail. Try to understand the overall picture and applications for the topics you are covering. If something seems too complex or beyond your understanding, try to simply remember a few key aspects about it, such as it’s struture and purpose, rather than getting hung up on each minuscule detail.
