    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Digital Electronics is a special course that is given in Brooklyn Tech to sophomores. It is not a everyday course that you will see in other high schools. Using multi sim, a circuit simulator, you will take on creative projects that involve processing and controlling digital signals. You use digital electronics in everyday devices like cellphones and laptops, and this course is a starting step to seeing how those devices truly work.

    Course highlights:

Starting off with simply learning scientific and engineering notations, I learned how to work with breadboards and microcontrollers. Number systems are also taught, such as boolean algebra and other combinational logical languages. My favorite part of this course was attempting to program a robot at the end of the year. Using all of the knowledge I learned throughout the year, groups attempted to program chips that are then tested on robots. The objective was to program the robot to follow a racetrack without bumping into the walls of the track.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

If you are interested into programming, this is an ideal course. It is a great intro into digital programming if that is something you plan to major in college. Mr. Chan is an excellent teacher who teaches at a steady pace. However, if you find this class hard, do get involved in tutoring. I failed multiple tests at the beginning of this course, but through hard work and tutoring, I was able to steadily improve my grade over the course of the year.
