    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this class because it was one I would say I learned the most in, throughout my entire high school career. The curriculum was rigorous and difficult, but with the proper study habits and just an honest motivation to pay attention, it was so worth it.

    Course highlights:

Going into this class, I was terrified of failure. It was my first real, actual IB Class, and the teacher definitely intimidated me. But I learned so much during my two semesters under the wing of IB. This class taught me to focus in on the minute details of writings and to think thoroughly about what I'm reading.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Always, always, ALWAYS read the books/plays/poems/etc. thoroughly and through to the end. Googling the summation of the work will not help you when you need to apply actual quotes into your essays.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This course is for literature fanatics. It's high paced and requires high writing skills, but it's a fun, though provoking course.

    Course highlights:

I learned that different people interpret the same novel differently. Themes in novels are diverse and important; take what you want from novels you read.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Don't fall behind in your reading! If you work hard you'll do fine, if you don't, it'll reflect in your grades.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This class has provided me with deep insight to the world of classic literature. Before taking my IB English classes, I wouldn't have dreamt of picking up a copy of A Tale of Two Cities or the Great Gatsby. Being in this class has really engaged me into a new perspective of literature and its symbolism, and has also given me a mini history lesson too.

    Course highlights:

You learn immense amounts of literary analysis skills. You get to read poetry, and the best part is the discussion. Being able to find different perspectives on the same poem is what makes an English class bearable, if not enjoyable. You really find that literature is fluid in these types of classes.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Never procrastinate. Always read your novels. Teachers won't postpone a test because you were unprepared or didn't read your material. Plus, it is valuable to know the information about the book when you take the IB test at the end of the course.
