Great Intro to the Subject
Not too easy. Not too difficult.
I would recommend this course to others because it really opened up my mind on how culture varies between all countries but also how it varies between people within the same race. I learned how neighboring villages had different practices and how one practice might seem weird to me but might be custom to the people right next to me. Professor Dettwyler is so passionate about this concept of culture that she got me to enjoy the material and she encouraged us to go out in the real world and experience different cultures for our own which got the class to engage in the material. I really wish i knew how important the text book was for this class before i started because I thought that I could just get by with just studying the power points but i quickly learned after exam 1 that almost all test material comes from the textbook.
From this course, I learned how culture all over the world varies from one race to another and I also learned how the American view of culture is not the central point of culture for all life in the world but instead, it is just a small point of reference. I also learned how judgement of other races clouds the view of Muslim people around the world. For example, I learned that I have a bigger chance of getting shot by a toddler then being a victim in a terrorist attack.

Advice for students:
I would tell students considering taking this course that she does give a lot of extra credit attendance so go to class as much as you can but also because the lectures are very interesting and entertaining. Also, READ THE TEXTBOOK as it is going to be the key for your success in this class.
