    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would most definitely recommend this course because Professor Zaho has a very interesting teaching style that really pushes the students to absorb the information rather than just memorize and let go. The subject matter was sublime, and they way she taught it made it so fun and easy to learn. Some say her class is hard, which I agree, but it challenged me in a good way so that is why I took another class of hers.

    Course highlights:

I learned in depth about medieval art and what truly makes these works special. I would say the biggest highlight of the course was the different stories Professor Zaho would tell to correlate to the different works she portrayed to us. She includes a lot of images that she herself has taken of the different works which really shows she knows her stuff and cares about the subject matter since she has seen practically all of the pieces she shows.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Since her exams are PowerPoint based and timed at that, just keep in mind that reading through the entire question is important. Do not rush and just breathe. When studying the material, make sure you take breaks and try to associate each work with a story she has told or something that will trigger the information to come back to you.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Zaho is like a walking encyclopedia; she is so intelligent. It is an upper level course, so she will expect her students to put in a lot of work because there is so much information to learn. However, she is funny, witty, and cares about your success so long as you make sure to put in the effort.

    Course highlights:

This is an Art History course, and one thing that people don't really expect is that it is not just seeing pretty pictures and learning about them. You have to learn the history surrounding the piece as well, as in: who commissioned it, who was involved in its creation, where it is located, and for what purpose it was originally used for. It's really like a history class; but way much more fun.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Don't take word for word notes, because they will not help you. Instead make sure to really listen and take thorough and key notes about what she is saying. Know the dates and locations of artworks, and of the artists if there are any. Just make sure to pay a lot of attention. It's not a boring class, so the former statement shouldn't be much of a problem.
