    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This class will push you to your mental limits! I only recommend this class if you are absolutely dedicated to the subject and you are ready to work harder than you ever have in your academic career. It is absolutely possible to pass this class, and eve get an A, but you have to go into it knowing that it will be your life. The information you will be taught in this course goes far beyond any undergraduate level anatomy class you will ever take, but if you manage to absorb even half of it, you will be above any many of your peers and medical school will be a breeze.

    Course highlights:

The way Dr.Samsam teaches goes far beyond any typical anatomy course. For example, Dr.Samsam will expect you to know not only know the name of a muscle and where it is located, but where it originates and where it inserts, along with the innervation of that muscle, the blood supply to that muscle, etc. THEN you will need to know, what happens if that muscle is injured? What movements may a patient not be able to perform? What does this say about the possible nerve damage? He goes above and beyond to train you to think critically and his tests can often times be very clinical. It can take a while to train your brain to work this way, and preparing for his biweekly tests can be life consuming. But if you do understand the material and the questions he is asking, you are far beyond any of your peers.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

A couple very important tips to succeeding in this course: - His textbook is your new Bible. He directly quotes it in lectures and on tests. -Lectures are not absolutely necessary to attend, as his book will be much better than your notes for a study guide, BUT if he notices the lecture is not showing up he will take away your curve! - Take the BLUE CLINICAL POINTS in his txtbk very seriously, those come up often on the test! -DON'T freak out if your average is a "67%" or you are failing many tests. He curves anywhere from 10-22% each test. He knows his tests are impossible. But he only put the curve in at the end, so you will be failing all semester and suddenly have a B! -Train your brain to think clinical. -For the "muscle" units, use your body! I can't tell you how many times I was stretching my legs and curving my arms during tests to remember information. It works! -EXTRA CREDIT DRAWINGS during lab test will SAVE your grade. Take them extremely seriously. It can give you 4 points on your final grade, as in bringing you from a 78% to a 82%.
