Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I believe Genetics are fundamental to every human alive and Eric Hoffman has a great way of relating it on such a personal level, you will really leave this class learning more about who you are, how you got your unique phenotypes and why your biology works the way it does.

    Course highlights:

I learned all about the Hox genes and their ability to control growth factors and many other genes which regulate the basic structure of one's body. Also inheritance and how I received a mixture of my parents DNA which combined in a unique manner, coupled with a few mutations, toi produce someone entirely different from everyone else. Phylogenies and the connected-ness of all animals on Earth through their DNA was also touched on and super exhilarating to learn about.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Definitely read the book, it was super helpful in explaining the complex theories. And if you have any questions, don't hesitate to visit Dr. Hoffman's office hours. He is great at explaining things in a one-on-one setting and truly takes the time out of his day to make sure you understand the material.

    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

I recommend this class because the professor is extremely helpful and what he teaches is actually on the tests he gives. Although he doesn't give out homework, he does give practice problems and he goes over some of them in class.

    Course highlights:

I learned a lot more from that class than expected. The professor's a chill and funny guy, but cares about his students and wants you to learn the material.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

If you have the time, try to stop by the SI study meetings at least once. A couple friends I know did this, and they understood the material better. If you don't have much time, like I did, then definitely try some practice problems.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Genetics is a very interesting topic in my opinion. You learn about the cell cycle, genotypic offspring, and it requires a lot of thinking in order to get to the answer. I see it as a puzzle!

    Course highlights:

I learned knowledge on the cell cycle, the expected genotype and phenotype of offspring, and how to use given information to predict a product.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

The professor was amazing and was always quick to answer emails. The online quizzes were simple and helped boost my grade. Exams were tough, but if you studied her powerpoints and practiced the problems given in class and in SI, then the class is definitely doable!
