    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

The professor was fun and engaging, and the subject itself - introductory Java - was incredibly enjoyable to work with. While it is an easy class - as an introductory course should be - the lab assignments force you to apply your knowledge and use problem-solving skills, so it is not a waste of time.

    Course highlights:

The class laid foundational knowledge for Java, one of the main coding languages in computer science. We mostly learned basic syntax, but near the end we started to delve into object-oriented programming, which is essential for more complex programming.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Go to the labs! You are only required to go to some of the labs, but attending all of them allows you to gain a much better understanding of the course material for future classes or work in the field. From having taken another Java class that placed much less emphasis on reinforcing what was learned through practice, I can confidently state that doing lab work is just as important as attending the lecture itself if you want to learn the language and function well on tests.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I have to agree with Steve Jobs. Computer Programming really does 'teach' you how to think! As a student with a highly qualitative background, studying computer programming really expanded my horizons. It was amazing seeing how something as simple as logic could also be so highly complex. I think all current students should learn how to code because by 2020 there will be a million empty coding jobs in America alone.

    Course highlights:

I think the best part was seeing how I could create something as complex as a clock or a calendar all on my own just after studying a few weeks of material.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Stick to it! It's hard but it'll pay off once you begin to see your new coding powers!
