Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Sarkar is an excellent professor and truly cares for her students. She is, however, often overwhelmed my large lecture hall courses, so go out of your way to get to know her.

    Course highlights:

All of the evolutionary insight was particularly interesting and helpful to know. I also loved Dr. Sarkar's extra section on evolution in disease.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Go to workshop and to office hours, they really do help!

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The stupidest course at UM for undergraduate students that makes you memorise meticulous pointless detail. However, it is mandatory and unless they change it you will have to suffer through. P. Groff is a good professor, just listen to him and read ahead, you will thank me later because there is a ton of material and there is no way to know what he will exactly test. Be prepared to suffer and learn about every detail about evolution.

    Course highlights:

Evolution and diversity of the phylogeny of life, but to be honest, nothing. Most students cram the night before the test, memorise everything and then walk out of the course knowing nothing. There is so much pointless information that it's ridiculous especially if you are pre-med. The grand scheme of things is interesting and helpful, but the details are just absurd.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Study and plan ahead! Read along with the lecture because there is a lot of material!!

    | No strong feelings either way.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This class doesn't appear to be as difficult as it is. Dr. Groff is fun and engaging, and his lectures seem interesting. The first exam is even easy, with reviewing information from General Biology. But the course goes on to get much harder, with intense memorisation required, and constant studying to keep up.

    Course highlights:

Dr. Groff is fun and goofy and very interesting to listen to. The geological history of earth was the most interesting topic to learn, but took a lot of work to memorise.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Study study study. Study every topic and chart and try to commit all of it to memory. Dr. Groff tests you on clades and charts and the history of time and you need to know how to label it and what it means.
