You learn about the health care that is available in your community & surrounding counties. Also you get to get involved & get hands on experience. Learn of real people doing this for a living. Figuring out what role you will take once you complete school. Some area allow volunteers so this can be a real winner & your learn things that will last a lifetime through out your career...They deal with things from Hypertention to STD's & TB clinic. You get up close with the patients & get to take part in the care & education which is provided.
We went thur immunizations at community health dept which we all required most of them at some point. Also seeing what STD's look like in case you never had one & seeing how they affect everyday people as they are ofen open about what is going on at home.

Do some volunteering at their local health dept. Also learn what services are provided at their local health dept & take advantage of the services. Educate family & friends & have them utilize these services. There are dozens of pamphlets to take home with much needed & valuable information on hotlines & websites that are available. Knowledge is power...
