Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because it opened my view to many different styles of writing that I wasn't aware of previous to this course. I enjoyed the overall process. I was able to write my own research paper (which I didn't thoroughly enjoy then, but appreciate the knowledge now).

    Course highlights:

I enjoyed the discussions of how each individual learned or saw the material we were researching. It was helpful to take in account, not only your teachers view, but your classmates as well. This technique came in very handy when we had to write our own five page research paper on a heated topic within politics today.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

I would definitely advise them to read the material that they are given. It is given to you for a reason. I would also recommend staying ahead of the game and actually study that material by researching the time period, author, etc.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this class not only because of the friendly, laid-back atmosphere but also because of the amount of knowledge offered to me during the year. Ms. Choate makes this class enjoyable because she is not like other teachers. Her young and vibrant spirit allowed her to make a connection with her students that other teachers don't have. I learned more from Ms. Choate in one year, than in my previous English classes in high school.

    Course highlights:

To start off, I learned a lot from this class. I learned how to fit most of my ideas and opinions in a single essay without it being ten pages long and boring enough to put someone to sleep. I never thought of myself as a great writer before this class. My writing was bland, enough to get the point across but not enough to make people remember it. After this class, I feel like my writing style has grown stronger and improved beyond what I thought it could. This class was focused on improving its students' writing comprehension skills. It definitely helped mine.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Use your time wisely during the week and finish your homework on time because excuses will not help you. Be prepared to do some work outside of the classroom and be prepared to do all the work that is required. This class is only hard if you make it hard. The main piece of advice I will leave is learn. Learn whenever, wherever, and however you can. Never stop learning.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I learned how to write a lot better, especially with synthesis, rhetorical analysis, and argumentative papers. I learned better time management which helped me get my work done on time as well as doing it correctly. I also grew a lot as a person, as we had separate focus units that talked about current issues as well as our history.

    Course highlights:

I can now write an essay within twenty minutes and get at least a six. I feel a lot more confident in my writing abilities as we wrote essays upon essays upon essays. I increased my background knowledge with books, speeches, and articles. I found my sense of self in this class. I found a firmer ground when making a claim and the right way to provide grounds and backing to those claims.

    Hours per week:

    0-2 hours

    Advice for students:

Always read the material, even if you don't want to. It will continue to come up in lecture. Don't just let the material go in one ear and out the other, every topic, article, book, and essay is important.
