Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I absolutely recommend this course, as it teaches you all the complex mechanisms that microorganism have developed over the course of evolution. Dr. Brofft is a wonderful professor who takes the time to get everyone to understand the material and she is very easy and friendly to talk to if you need help.

    Course highlights:

Learning the structure of different types of bacteria and how certain pathogenic bacteria cause different types of diseases based on how they are introduced to the body.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Don't try to just memorize the vocabulary or the processes involved, you have to be able to interpret them and discuss how they intertwine.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This course is a whole experience for those who are just beginning the biology path. This course is fun, unexpected and somewhat challenging. Those who have never experienced microbiology up close and personal are definitely in for something special. The fun part comes in when you learn something interesting the lecture and you get to carry that new knowledge into the lab and actually do it! Growing your own microbes and seeing them up close is something I enjoyed every day.

    Course highlights:

This course is altogether fun. The most fun is the lab in which you get to grow and manipulate many different types of microbes with many different characteristics. This course DEFINES hands on learning so don't be afraid to grow those microbes! The teaching of aseptic technique might raise the confidence of those who fear germs.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Don't be afraid of getting your hands dirty! This course is very important to many different fields in biology. This course acts as gateway into other high level courses and will give you valuable lab experience that you can use in the real world.
