    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course if you plan on becoming anything in the medical field because a biology course is always required. This course taught me a lot I needed to know about biology. It goes in depth about the knowledge of biology. Although it is stressful and tough, I believe it is worth it.

    Course highlights:

I learned a lot about cellular respiration, photosynthesis and Genetics. I enjoyed genetics the most because I learned about sex linked traits, how to read karyotypes and identify diseases like Down syndrome and turners syndrome. I also learned how to read pedigree charts which I found interesting the most.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

I would advice you to challenge yourself because it does not hurt to try. Meet deadlines and do not, I repeat do not procrastinate because you will be stressed. Use the avid strategy and take good cornell notes and study.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because of how well the teacher works with the students to be able to help them gain new knowledge.

    Course highlights:

Ecology, I've learned so much about the environment and how some species may look the same but do not come from common ancestors.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Be sure to ask for help when you need it because all the topics connect with each other so you need to understand everything.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The main reason why I would recommend this class is the great teaching. Because this class is an IB class, meaning that it is a college course, it should give an insight of what actual college biology may seem like. This class focused on dissecting each bio topic and creating an experiment out of each topic to allow the students to have a visual of the bio topics. The course is split into two years where half of the topics are taught the first year while the other half are taught the next year. This allows more time for the subject to not only be taught but also learned and dissected, a bonus for students who prefer to not only just be in class to get the credit but also to actually learn and be educated on the information.

    Course highlights:

I learned just about all the writings and components of different topics in bio that I usually see in movies, you know, on the chalk board making students freak out because of how complex it looked. That was one of my key moments actually, never in my life did I think I would be able to be a part of learning such "language". I was able to learn that that "language" that seemed impossible to learn was actually a deeper view of something that I already knew since 4th grade - photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a topic that is taught in just about every biology class you take, because its such a common topic I am able to maintain that knowledge. In this class I was able to see a different perspective of the process, not only a biology perspective but also a chemistry perspective. I was able to learn that all of the cycles (nitrogen cycle, carbon cycle, etc.) work together to continue the life on earth. I believe that was the highlight of the course for me, being able to see everything come together into one big system and to dissect the different components but still know that there is more to each component. I feel as though we were left at that stage of getting a deeper understanding but still knowing that there is more to it, to be able to use that knowledge to determine where we would like to take our science "careers" from that starting position.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

One thing my teacher always told my class was "develop a study group", you may think you are better with off but you would be surprise how beneficial it is to have different minds come together as one. Having different people that had different perspectives on the information or even took different notes in class gives you the all around idea of what you may need to know for that topic. Many students who plan to follow in the medical career usually choose this class in hopes of having some sort of connection to their future. Look at this class as a beginning to your career; this class will allow you to get a scope of areas that will be learned later on down the pathway to your medical career.
