Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Getting a dose of a college-level curriculum early on could ease your transition from high school senior to first-year college student. AP Courses show college admissions that you're ready for college-level work. You should definitely try it at least and challenge yourself of college is a possibility in your future. If you never try, you'll never know how intelligent you really. You'll never know how much you handle and what you're capable of if you don't try. I was very hesistant at first once I got into AVID which required me to take at least on Advanced course. I wasn't sure I would be able to handle it but because I tried, I stuck with it and continued to challenged myself to take AP courses throughout the remaining 3 years of high school I had. I had to encourage myself and believe in myself. My peers and teachers started to believe in me because I was able to believe in myself. I ended up graduating with honors this year and many colleges were impressed! It wont be easy but it will be worth it. You'll be able to say "I survived, I conquered, I overcame." Do not be afraid. You can do anything you set your mind to. It won't hurt to try, especially AP U.S. Government.

    Course highlights:

The highlight of this course was definitely learning about different cases. Some of the cases were interesting. I learned about the Brown v. Board of Education case. This 1954 case overturned the Separate but Equal standard of discrimination in education. I learned about that Miranda v. Arizona case. It was a 1966 ruling that established the law where a suspect has a right to remain silent and the right to consult with a lawyer upon arrest. One of the cases I really enjoyed learning about was the Roe v. Wade case. It was a 1973 ruling that decriminalized abortion. Although I would never get an abortion, I believe people should be able to get one. It's their choice and their life.

    Advice for students:

AP US Government involves a great deal of reading, and my advice is to actually read! It will benefit you in the long run. There were times where I didn't read a certain chapter I was assigned and because of that mistake, I wasn't prepared for the pop quiz and test that was centered around that particular chapter. I didn't receive the decent grade that I could've If I would've read. I was not prepared and didn't know anything on that test. I learned the hard way. Do not be too hard on yourself! Give yourself room to make mistakes and improve, it will drive you crazy! I was extremely hard on myself if I would make anything below a B. Study, study, study! Create a study group! It will definitely help you! Ask for help if you need it. You will do yourself injustice if you don't and it will hurt you. It's okay to ask for help, everyone needs help some time. Make flashcards, it will make studying easier. Do not cram before a test and just study the night before. Study days before or as soon as you receive a review. Try taking Cornell notes, it will help you be more organized and study better. You will probably have to take Cornell notes in some point of your high school journey if you haven't already. Take every opportunity you get to do some extra credit work. It will help boost your grade up! DO NOT PROCRASTINATE PLEASE!!!!!!! It will not do you ANY GOOD. It just made things harder for me!!! I was stressed almost everyday just because I procrastinated. Work hard first, then you can play hard. If you are a procrastinator like me, please learn how to manage your time right now because if you don't, you will go through things that you really don't have to go through. Your year will go out smoother. If you really are considering this course, procrastination will be your worst enemy. You will most likely have a great load of homework and projects so do not procrastinate. Note: Procrastination produces problems. If you fail to prepare, then you prepare to fail. Try not to do things at the last minute or you will have MANY long sleepless nights like I did. Doing things ahead of time will save you from troubles. If you have a job like I did, try to find a way to balance out your time between work and school. Its's going to be hard, but just try to manage your time and balance everything out. Create a schedule. Get a planner and use it. Finally, encourage yourself when no one else will and don't give up! You can do it. Stay motivated, driven, and determined. The year will go by quick.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this class because it dives into real world things and stuff that is going on right now. Its cool because a lot of the time stuff that we learn is on the news and I can show off my understanding and knowledge about the subject at hand.
