Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I took this course my junior year and I absolutely loved it. It is so different from any other science class I have taken. My teacher was also very good at helping us understand the material and prepare for the IB test. As of last year, we are one of eight high schools in the nation that offers IB Marine Science and I think it is very cool to be apart of a class that very little people have the opportunity to enjoy.

    Course highlights:

MY favorite part about this class was learning about the different natural disasters and el nino and la nina and how those effect our winters and so on. I learned so much about the different tectonic plates on earth, what sea life lived where and why, where and what different types of algae grew, etc.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Have fun with it! And appreciate the opportunity you are given. I would recommend to really listen in and see if it is a potential career path for you because it is a very interesting topic.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Mrs. Townsend made this house all worth the while. She gave every student her full energy with such grace and compassion and a warm heart.

    Course highlights:

My favorite part of the course was learning about what was currently happening in our marine environment in the Puget Sound where I lived.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Study study study! Through out the course, Mrs. Townsend helps you create a fantastic notebook to help you learn and grasp all the information very visually.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

As someone who loves the ocean and plans on studying Marine Biology of course this class comes highly recommended. However, it also comes recommended because of the knowledge gained from it, the wonderful experiences I had with classmates and with my caring professor, and the cool projects and dissections that we did during it. The teacher is kind and caring, as well as considerate of other classes (especially IB classes) and provides every student with all the materials they need to succeed in the course from the very first day.

    Course highlights:

In this course I learned a lot about plankton (both phyto and zoo) as well as about food webs as a whole. I learned of the importance of every creature to maintaining the balance in a food web as well as in an ecosystem. There were a lot of different ecosystems studied, and their inhabitants as well as physical features and properties. We also learned about the tides and tidal patterns, and their importance to an ecosystem. Finally, we learned about camouflage techniques employed by animals in different ecosystems in order to hide from predators and prey and survive better in their environment.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

I would tell any students considering this corse because someone told them it is easy that it is not a good fallback class to take. It is not just an easy A. A good grade in the class is easy to get only if you apply yourself and are present everyday, as well as doing the work assigned and reviewing for quizzes or tests. If you are a student that needs lots of time available to talk with a teacher or someone who needs an understanding teacher, this is a good class as the teacher is extremely nice, considerate of other classes, and always helpful if you seek her out for help.
