    | Would highly recommend.

    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

I learned a lot in this class because Mrs. Townsend was a very good, thorough, and organized teacher. She not only taught us a whole lot about oceanography and marine biology, but also made it very fun and quite stress-free. For instance, she would start the class by showing us interesting marine news, much of which was very cute. Quizzes had unlimited retakes, and she emphasized them as more of a review sort of thing, rather than a quiz that you can pass or fail. At the end of the year, after we took the IB Marine Science exam (which was quite easy because of her extensive review) we went on a field trip to the nearby beach, and did some field work. We also did some awesome dissections, and overall, the class was the highlight of my junior year!

    Course highlights:

The highlights of the class were definitely the dissections and field trip we did. I also enjoyed the Kahoot practices we did, plus the observation type labs. In the beginning, we learned a lot about the ocean floor and names of the oceans. Throughout first semester we covered topics involving wave types, world wind movements, and ocean floor features. While especially wave types and graphs were a little confusing to me, Mrs. Townsend made the lesson bearable, and prepared us well for the tests. During 2nd semester, we moved our focus more towards the biology aspect of marine science. We studied a variety of ecosystems, along with some of the animals and plants in each system. This part was a little trickier for me because I'm not strong at memorizing names, but Mrs. Townsend gave us many quizzes for practice, as well as some fun coloring activities. Overall, I found this to be a rather easy, carefree course, where I learned a lot about a field of science I found interesting, and I highly recommend it!

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Don't just slack off if you think it's an easy course, because there is a lot of material the course covers. Ask Mrs. Townsend questions, because she's super sweet and is willing to answer anything. Also be sure to retake quizzes so you understand the material better, and do the unit reviews, especially if you struggle with the unit tests. Above all, just have fun learning about the ocean!
