Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

IB courses are great for learning at an accelerated pace and I think IB English is a good course for those who want to experience different types of literature in an in-depth manner. We really dive into the background and issues presented in the text, despite how difficult they may be to talk about amongst high schoolers. I really think that this class is great for anyone who wants a challenge but also wants to develop or further a love they have for literature.

    Course highlights:

The highlight of this course for me is exploring tough themes and motifs with high schoolers in an adult manner.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Learn to budget and manage your time well so you can read the texts and understand them in enough time.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

If you love English, not only reading and writing, but also analyzing, this is the class for you. It is a fast pace class with a heavy work load, but the teacher does it in a way that you can adjust and follow along perfectly fine with.

    Course highlights:

What was great about this course was that many of the books and poems we read were easy to express your own opinion. They allow you to think a different way and you really get to connect with the literature. We had a lot of fun activities throughout the year. I remember before reading Beloved, she would put a comment on the board and the class would go to different corners to say whether or not they agreed or disagreed. The class is challenging, but it is really effective and you will most definitely improve your skills.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure that you actually read the books and plays! Sparknotes and other sources cannot help you on those quizzes. Also, do not wait until the last minute to get your work done, it will be painful in the end.

    | No strong feelings either way.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The approach to literature promotes memorization of facts rather than free thought regarding the works. Gibson can be harsh with homework assignments.

    Course highlights:

I learned how to analyze a complex poem in 10 minutes. How's that for a party trick?

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Be ready for a lot of work. Sparknotes and Shmoop are close friends, but actually reading the texts will help you the most. They're good books, don't like tedious dialogue journals make you forget that.
