    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would definitely recommend this course, especially for people who love history. The topics covered are not typical of most high school history classes, so it is much more interesting. It focuses more on the story rather than the facts, and one of the main tenets is that you learn multiple perspectives. It is writing heavy, but it prepares you well for college and the teachers at South Lakes do an excellent job.

    Course highlights:

I learned so much in this class. We learned about regions and countries that are rarely discussed in most classes, like South Africa and India. It was very interesting and the resources my teacher used were incredible and really highlighted all the key points we needed to know.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

This class is definitely for people who love history. It is difficult, not because of the content but because of the work involved. There are research papers that are required, very long, and involve a lot of thought. Take notes on anything and everything. But it is a great class and worth the effort.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This course completely changed my outlook on history. It was so much more than just memorizing facts and dates; it actually allowed me to think about historical analysis and how history shapes modern society. Absolutely fascinating course, and while it may be difficult, it is completely worth it.

    Course highlights:

I was able to learn so much about so many different areas that I never would have learned about otherwise. We covered the typical Revolutionary War, Civil War, and Reconstruction, albeit with a variety of new perspectives; however, the truly fascinating part of the course was our study of Latin America. We were able to examine various Latin American independence movements as well as how these countries continued to develop throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. We also learned different ways of approaching history and how to conduct proper historical analysis like a professional historian would.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Listen to everything your teacher tells you. If they are good, they will tell you everything you need to know to do well on the tests. Learn the little tricks of how to do OPCVLs and memorize the point values for each question on the paper 1. Always always always include historiography in your papers; it is a super easy way to automatically boost yourself into the higher markbands. Also, do all of the assigned readings. They can seem like a pain, but they will help you so much. You can't get away with not knowing your stuff in this course. You have to be well versed in the content.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

If you able to manage your class and other commitments successfully, then you'll succeed. A big thing in this class is time management. There are several assignments spanning a month or two at time, with different deadlines. You're not prepared to have a planner colored coded or alarms set on your phone, it'll be a little hard to keep up.

    Course highlights:

I learned so much able it the United States and LAtin America. I kind of thought it would be like previous history classes, despite the IB tag, but in was so wrong. Mr Wagner is incredibly knowledgeable and learned about everything, and has a way of tying the information about the conquests of Latin America into the economic structure of colonial era America. I learned so much about the structure of recommends, and the role of power and greed.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Decide how much effort you want to put in. If you do your best, do your homework, complete the assignments by the deadlines, and do well on tests, you will see results. You will also learn ALOT about time management which will benefit you in the future.
