    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I recommend this course because it gives practice for college. There are high expectations set for this class and each student has to decide how much work they are willing to put in. That amount of effort is what will determine your grade in the class and your score on the AP test. The teacher is always available to answer questions and direct how to approach a problem, but you have to be willing to come in and showcase your understanding of the material prior to asking for an answer.

    Course highlights:

This course is obviously a more advanced version of the basic chemistry class, so you go much more in depth with each concept and topic. The homework is usually on Mastering Chemistry and that program has a variety of different types of questions: multiple choice, matching, diagrams. you learn how to approach many different types of problems that will be found on the chapter and AP tests.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Stay up to date with all assignments, readings, and labs. It's very easy to procrastinate with this class because the deadlines are set in the future and you'll tell yourself you'll eventually get it done, but imagine this, it's 4 in the morning and you're struggling to finish 7 labs, 1 hour of homework, and also trying to study for the semester final. It's not fun and it's almost guaranteed that you won't finish everything. Don't make that mistake. Overall, this class is a great opportunity to learn about chemistry and also get to work with students that are also struggling with you. It's fun to learn together and you also get to do some very interesting labs.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

If you want to go into a STEM field it is a good class to take, but don't underestimate the amount of work it is going to take.

    Course highlights:

You get a much more in-depth idea of how chemistry works. The labs are certainly a lot of fun but they will require more post lab work than regular chem.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Memorize those common ions, anions, and compounds. It isn't just summer homework that Shiroma gives out for no reason. It really is important to know all year.
