Always Do the Reading
Great Intro to the Subject
Not too easy. Not too difficult.
Prof. Carr is very passionate about the subject of Japanese art and he covers lots of good material in class. He is always open to questions, and I enjoyed learning in his class. I enjoyed learning about art history from a culture that was outside of my own.
I learned about the history of Japanese material culture and art history. I learned about the influences outside of Japan that had an impact on the creation of Japanese art. I learned to look at objects with a critical eye, and understand them within the context in which they were created.

Advice for students:
This class is not too difficult if you show up, pay attention, and do the readings. It's always more engaging when you've done the readings, and if you take notes on them throughout the semester while you do them, writing your final exam papers will be a breeze.
