Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

If you are thinking about not taking AP English because it will be too hard or too strenuous, STOP. English Language Arts with Ms. Haxton is a thinking class. She will teach you new ways to view the world, literature, and yourself as a person with critical evaluation skills you will never forget. She is accepting, argumentative, funny, and a powerful woman that hopes to influence all of her students' lives positively. She clearly states her job is to get you ready for college, and she does just that. So if you want to be a better person, a better writer, and a better college student take her class.

    Course highlights:

I gained an academic vocabulary relating to rhetorical analysis and syntax tools like anaphora, Toulmin essay model, and Post hoc ergo propter hoc (logical fallacy). I also learned how to structure my essays according to my audience's education, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. Reading new pieces of literature, I also learned how to find manipulation (emtional, logical, and statistical) within a piece of fiction and non-fiction writing. Overall, I became able in my ability to communicate my thoughts through academic writing of any form.
