Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would highly recommend this class because of the awareness you can gain from reading literature from around the world and because of the teacher, who helps you connect Afghan literature from the twenty-first century to nineteenth century British literature.

    Course highlights:

The highlight of this course would be reading the novels A Thousand Splendid Suns and The Pearl That Broke its Shell because I was inspired by the stories of the characters and I gained insight into the Afghan culture that is only second to actually going to Afghanistan. I was able to learn the different traditions such as the meaning of the burqa and why bacha posh is such a crucial part of the Afghan society. I also learned about the struggles going on throughout the Middle East and the rich history these lands have.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

I would tell students who are considering this course that to learn the most and gain the most insight into any of the novel you may read in this course, ENGAGE in class discussions. You will learn so much more from being an active participant in the class than being passive and not raising your hand, sharing your opinion, and asking questions that are puzzling you.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Kenney is a great teacher! Also, the course is very interesting. If you like psychology, it is definitely a class for you! She knows so much, and the stories we read were never dull.

    Course highlights:

I learned a lot about how the human mind works and what mental illnesses can be like. It was very cool to have the opportunity to study different mental illnesses and different stories about people with mental illnesses.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure you read all of the stories that are assigned! She gives reading check quizzes on every story you read. Also, study for her tests/quizzes and you should be fine. If you pay attention in class, you do not have to study extensively for her tests.
