Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Literature reveals aspects of a culture or time period that are crucial to understanding bits of history. It does the job nothing else can do: reveal what it was like to live then. Our book talked about how everyone is always so focused on the now and preparing for the next big thing. However, it is very beneficial to study and relate to how things came about, and also how they were before. Literature teaches about society, humanity and nature, and government and authority of different times through the works that were written then. It helps a person piece together and recognize how everything fits and how the world has not ceased to develop. I expect this class to help people apply literature from different parts of history to their own life.

    Course highlights:

I am glad that literature is a part of modern education. I think that literature is extremely important. Not only does it do the obvious like teach you how to read complicated texts or make you a well rounded student, but it does much more. Being able to analyze literature helps in every day life. Being able to identify themes is a part of living. Being able to look past fancy speech and get the gist of what one is saying helps in politics. Being able to dissect a text is crucial to understanding. Literature also inspires deep thought, conversation and debate. The highlight of this course was discussing and analyzing different works with my classmates.

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

This class requires an open mind and a desire to learn. This course involves a lot of reading and writing. These two things are some of the best ways to analyze and understand a product. Students need to be willing to critically think about what they are reading, or the time period they are learning about.
