Pretty easy, overall.
I would recommend this course to people who are either very motivated in learning Chinese or have previous experience in Chinese. Emory's foreign language courses tend to move fast, but CHN 101 has online homework due every day--with the assignments mainly being busywork. There are two vocab quizzes per week that are closed book (obviously), but the lesson tests are open book. This is great until the final, where it is closed book.
I learned to do homework ahead of time as it was easy to forget to do the online homework every night.
