    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Mr. Grover is an incredibly engaging teacher with a wonderful style. He prepared us well for the AP test.

    Course highlights:

We had quizzed every Friday so that we knew exactly what we would need to study for the AP test. Grover also made class fun everyday from telling stories to having a rollypolly day where we just observed behaviors of rolypollys.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Stay committed to doing well on the quizzed every week and you'll be prepared for the test! Also, go to the Saturday review sessions.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This course was very thorough and covered all the main principles of Biology. It was very much a reading and lecture based class, so it was very helpful in understanding how a college course would work. It is absolutely essential to be caught up on the reading and take thorough notes, as memorization is key to understanding biology (as opposed to Calculus, which is primarily enforced by actually solving Calculus-based problems). As with all AP tests, the AP Biology test can ask anything relating to the subject, so frequent studying is necessary to reinforce the insane amount of information learned in AP Biology.

    Course highlights:

This course focussed on the big themes of Biology, from evolution to cellular systems to ecology. The depth of information within each of these categories was very tough to take in, but my understanding of biology is much better as a result. The systems I most enjoyed involved the immune system, including how the body remembers pathogens that have previously invaded, and the nervous system, particularly how a synapse actually works (this required me to recall how polar molecules work, which required knowledge of chemistry from previous years).

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

The reading and lecture notes are absolutely essential. If you have a good enough memory, you can get away with not taking notes on the reading, as this is primarily a more detailed supplement to the lectures, but you MUST at least take notes during the lectures. Ask frequent questions, as many of these concepts can be confusing if you try to interpret them on your own (for me, this was particularly true with ecology and statistical analysis).
