Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I was never more prepared for the SAT and ACT than I was after this course. I have always been a terrible test taker, but the attention to detail I obtained after this course improves my scores all around. I am able to get several college credits and an outstanding scholarship to the University of Alabama thanks to this class.

    Course highlights:

I learned how to digest a story and read between the lines. I no longer mindlessly read anything. Every sentence has a purpose. Every metaphor has an author behind it that wants a reader to learn something from it. I learned that authors don't just write, to write. They do it purposefully and meticulously, in order to convey a message. I learned to ask, "Why?" and not, "What?" I learned what anaphora is and how to use it.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

This class is draining. Not because it is hard, but because it is all about the details and strategy. Yes, it would be easier to do it "your way," but this class isn't about easier. It's about what's right. In order to succeed in this class, you cant be looking for loopholes. You have to suck it up and do every single thing that Mrs. Knapp tells you, exactly the way she said to do it.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course to everyone, even if you are looking to go into a science major. This class teaches you how to analyze a piece of writing, literary or scholarly, and pick out the important information. It also focuses on writing under a time limit, which serves as great preparation for AP testing. The class was probably the most challenging one I have taken, but am so grateful for the teacher I had and the content she provided for my classmates and I.

    Course highlights:

Having to read the books and writings assigned was the best part. While they seemed tedious at first, each offered a new way of thinking and writing I had never experienced. It allowed me to see the world in a new perspective. Pieces such as "Civil Disobedience" and "Self-Reliance" were enlightening to say the least.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Always do the readings that are assigned. It may be easy to look for the condensed versions online where it summarizes the main ideas, but you will get so much more out of the class from reading the pieces in their entirety. Working with other to understand the readings it a great way for clarification and allows for great discussion with more insights.

    | No strong feelings either way.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would only recommend this course to student who excel in their English classes freshman and sophomore year. This class in not for everyone! I did have a hard time understanding the content that was included in this course and found myself studying for this course every night for a few hours. This class was very challenging but very rewarding when I completed the class in the spring.

    Course highlights:

I gained a greater in depth knowledge of English. I learned lots about rhetoric, which helped me prepare for my SAT and ACT.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

You need to be prepared for class everyday meaning come to class everyday ready to learn and participate. This class is no joke so if you aren't going to take it seriously, don't sign up. Distractions are a must not in this class. You need to pay attention or else you will be completely lost in the lesson! Good luck to those who are proceeding to take AP Lang!
