    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would definitely recommend this class and for International Baccalaureate students at this school it is required. Mr. Scofield is an incredible teacher who makes the class relatable and fun by comparing the past to the present.

    Course highlights:

An important aspect of the class is learning about single-party dictatorial leaders from throughout history. It is very interesting to learn the ideology and motivation behind these leaders and to see what made them act as they did. For my year, it was especially interesting because we were learning about Fidel Castro during the time that he died and it was easy to find more information about him online and in publications.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

If you want to succeed in this class, you definitely need to utilize all the sources and ask questions in class regardless of how ridiculous they may seem. A lot of resources are provided for added learning but only a few are considered mandatory reading. To make sure that you do well in the class, you should read the extra readings and try to ask questions whenever you do not understand something.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I know it is a requirement but it is actually a useful class to not only understand concepts in history like single party states, however he is passionate in his job and his lectures are extremely useful. Ask him questions from the reading and you should be fine. He is an excellent teacher who wants you to succeed.

    Course highlights:

I learned about many dictators, terrible leaders and gained insight on our government.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Read the packages even if they are long. Annotate them and put questions on the side when you get confused on some of the information. Take notes and you should be fine for the IB exam.
