    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

AP Biology was among the most challenging classes I have ever taken (right behind AP Calculus) during my time in high school. I was pushed to excel to the best of my ability, and was forced to focus so much more on truly understanding and being able to utilize the information than solely being able to get a good grade on a test. I truly feel like this class helped me to realize the kind of student I can and should be, as well as pushing me to be more independent and confident in my abilities.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of this course for me was the real life application of information. No subject was presented to us without an experiment, demonstration, or project associated with it. I learned for too much information to cover in this one answer, but it is safe to say my general knowledge has expanded greatly. I feel much more equipped to understand the issues that are facing the world today in terms of climate change, antibiotic resistance, and much more. These are issues that my generation is going to be responsible for, and it is important to understand them. The most intriguing lessons to me are those involving the environment because I plan to study environmental science, but this course really covers so much information, anyone who enjoys science will find something that interests them.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Whatever you do, do not procrastinate. There will be a lot of work to do, and more assessments than you can probably count. If you keep yourself a schedule and stay up to date on your work, the class will feel much more manageable. Do not be afraid to ask questions-it is very likely someone is wondering the same thing you are! It is better to clear up any confusion than to allow it to fester. Learn to be patient, and be willing to start over. It's natural- a lot of the information will be new to you and you definitely will not know how to do it all at first. Finally, do not focus all your energy on doing well on all those assessments. If you work hard to understand the information, you will do just fine. Learn to reject your need for perfection.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I recommend AP Biology; this course is a challenge and will push you to new limits. This class provides skills that are essential to have in college and higher level thinking. Background knowledge on basic biological terms and functions is very important before starting AP Biology, the class builds off these basics. After taking this class, my mental stamina, problem solving, and deep level application thinking has noticeably increased.

    Course highlights:

The main highlight of this course was complex lab work over the following topics: effects of environmental factors on meal worm and plants, gel electrophoresis, photosynthesis, and many more. In this course, I learned complex elements of photosynthesis, the main inner workings of cells, ecology, basic chemistry, genetics, and much more.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Always read and outlines chapter outlines, if you are confused by the text, find videos. After you do the reading, make sure you are able to apply your knowledge rather than just recite terms. Take advantage of lab work and papers, your grade will thank you. If the class feels like it’s “too much” take a break and clear your mind before starting again, I promise everyone else feels the same.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This course challenges the smartest students in a high school. Where many might not have had to study prior they will sefibwtly have to study in this corse. And even then the exams require application to studies and require one to be concise in their explanations.

    Course highlights:

One very valuable thing I've learned from this course is how to outline. It's easy to write everything in the chapter down and expect to have learned it all. However, over time one learns what information should be written down. This allows someone to then look over their outlines quickly and quiz themselves without rereading the entire chapter. I've also become better at explaining my work as my teacher and classmates challenged me. Sometimes it's awful but there is a lot to learn and my explanation skills have benefited from this class.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

If you feel like an idiot, that is totally normal. In most classes you feel like one of the smartest but all of the smartest are in one room being challenged by one another. Know that you have something that others don't have, what that is obviously depends on the individual. Learn what your advantage is and know that this is why your in the class and that you can succeed.
