Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This class is a great way to get a grasp on the study of Anthropology. If you were not interested in the subject before the class, you will be afterwards. The professor Dr. Papavasiliou is Greek and has mastered the field incredibly. Attendance is not mandatory but definitely recommended if you want to pass her class with an A. Her powerpoints will not do you much good without her accompanying lecture. She does provide a plethora of extra credit and there are 2 exams, 2 writing assignments and one noncumulative final. The book is free online through the library website. DON'T BUY IT

    Course highlights:

The highlights of the course were the readings and videos she assigned and our discussions of them. They really made me view the world in a different light. The most important lesson I learned is that cultures cannot be compared in terms of value to one another, and that all cultures are inherently legitimate. Moreover, the sense of discomfort one feels in a society or when surrounded by a group of people unlike themselves is a sign that one has a culture and it is at odds with the one in its present company.

    Hours per week:

    0-2 hours

    Advice for students:

The book does not need to be read aside from terminology. Most of the material on the exams comes from her lectures and the articles she assigns. Go to class and take notes. Do not try to get by off of the power points alone.
