    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

    The course is hard but the professor made it easier for us. It requires a lot of memorization and critical thinking. Expect heavy load of homework and online quizzes.

    Course highlights:

    A lot of homework. Use of textbook is not necessary if you want to excel on the course. Final test is cumulative. Professor expects you to know previous content, will stop to clarify but won't go in detail.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

    Stay on top of it by doing all homework before going to next conference. It might look overwhelming at first but it's doable. Flashcards with formulas and course highlights will help.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

    Calculus 1 with Dr. Stackpole was a very challenging course that really helped me to see the usefulness of calculus in my everyday life. Throughout this course we learned how to apply calculus to police chases, swimming, and other everyday activities that I did not realize involve calculus. We also had the opportunity to fly drones for this course and analyze their movement, velocity, and acceleration using the calculus concepts that were taught by our professor. This course also made me realize that I actually enjoy math, more than I thought I did because of its practicality.

    Course highlights:

    Dr. Stackpole was a very nice and clear instructor. The examples that he gave in class really helped me to learn the concepts of calculus, rather than just reading out of a textbook. I enjoyed the group projects that he assigned to us; I had the opportunity to fly drones in his course, and though I had never flown a drone before, I was able to analyze different aspects of the drone's movement by using calculus. Some of the material that we covered included: Limits, Derivatives, Integrals, Theorems, Maximizing and Minimizing numbers, and Differentials.

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

    If you want to do well in Calculus 1, make sure that you do your homework because it really helps you understand what you are doing. Also, pay attention in class because the professor provides numerous examples for you to learn the material. If you do not understand something, do not hesitate to ask the professor because if you wait, things will only become harder and harder for you. If you do your homework, pay attention in class during lessons, and complete your study guides, you will be successful in Calculus 1!
