Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This course intrigues me about the very things that make up life. This course taught me so many new things that I did not know before, and now has me thinking differently about my future career. Taking this course brought my attention to so many more things that happen that make up life than the human eye can see. Although that statement is quite vague and frankly a little but of an obvious statement - it felt like I was learning about so many new things that occur at every moment than what I knew before. For example learning about genetic material, energy production, macromolecules and their structures, proteins, organelles makes me feel so much more engaged in learning about how life works on this planet. As every course has its flaws, this one was fast paced and the online homework tool lagged a lot which became frustrating quickly. I did wish that I had a better high school course on biology so I didn't feel so clueless, but at the same time it broadened my mind to learning the material and making it stick.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of this course mainly consisted of the lab activities and being able to apply some of the concepts in lab, and the lab concepts to real life. Before attending BIOL 1107K I had no idea how to pipette, make solutions and dilutions, use any of the absorbency tools are what their purposes even were. But after coming to the point of completion in this course I can now say I am much more experienced and now withhold the skills needed to proceed onto the next course in biology.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

When preparing for the lab practical, be sure that you understand dilutions, independent and dependent variables, positive and negative controls, and some general background on biology such as proteins, enzymes and the macromolecules (lipids, amino acids, proteins, carbs).
