Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Although I have not taken Biology II yet, I will take it this year with Mr. Edelbrock, however, I have had both Mrs. Kerr and Mr. Edelbrok throughout my high school career and they are both amazing teachers and some of my favorite.

    Course highlights:

The first year of AP/IB Biology taught me so much and I really enjoyed this class. The first year of AP/IB Biology focuses mostly on animals and different systems of the body. Although some units, like the immune system, are tough they are manageable if you spend time studying the information and work to really understand everything. I loved when we spent class time dissecting rats and those were some of my favorite days in the class, but I also loved learning about the nervous and cardiac systems.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Study for the tests a few days in advance, not the night before, as there is generally a lot of information on each test since they are written by AP. I thought that studying my reading guides was beneficial and seemed to help me out, but in order to study them you have to thoroughly complete them. Also, try not fall behind, ask questions when you are lost or after missing a day of school because once you are behind its hard to understand the rest of the chapter.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I highly recommend this two year class! It is a tough class, don't get me wrong, but it prepares you for the AP or IB exam and it allows you to explore everything from genetics to plants to the digestive system. The class is not impossible, though. You do have to study but this is a good thing because it teaches you study skills. Plus, the teachers are AMAZING! They are both willing to stay after school or at lunch with you if you need help and are always willing to reteach or review with you.

    Course highlights:

Advanced Bio was great because of all of the hands-on learning that we did. There were lots of labs that helped to further reinforce material. The labs could range from modelling protein synthesis using modelling clay to the rat dissection that is done in the spring time to looking at leaves under a microscope to gram staining bacteria. I personally like labs so this was a lot of fun for me as well as very educational. The teachers were also a highlight because of their enthusiasm and their teaching styles. Both teachers do not just teach lecture-style. They use games like Kahoot, movies, labs, worksheets, online games and websites, etc.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

I have a natural knack for biology and it comes fairly easy to me so this class wasn't sure difficult for me. That being said, you HAVE to study and you HAVE to do your homework. The courses are run more like a college class than a high school class so you are expected to do your homework and know what's going on, and you are expected to ask questions if you don't understand what is happening. Another piece of advice that I would give is to get help outside of class if you need it. Do not be embarrassed about going in after school to get help. Kerr and Mr. E are great people and very helpful and sometimes you need a little extra help.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The class may be tough, but you learn so much and the teachers are great at their job.

    Course highlights:

I learned a great amount and very in depth information on the human body and its functions. The class is small every year, so we bond easily and it makes the overall setting comfortable.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Never procrastinate anything in this class! Put in the extra studying time and if you need help, ask! The end result is worth it.
