Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Mrs. Smith was patient with all of her students. She knew their individual strengths and weaknesses. I felt very comfortable asking her specific questions about her objectives. I worked with other students who had English 12 during a different block. We would study for our test because Mrs. Smith made sure that she had gone over the study guide with each of us. I enjoyed going to this class each day.

    Course highlights:

I learned what it took to be successful in taking College English in this class. Mrs. Smith would always say that she was preparing us for college. She would research different colleges English departments. She showed us the expectations of the colleges on the promethean board. I took the ACT before taking Mrs. Smith class. I took it again and increased my English by five points.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure that you take good notes and listen in class. Do not focus on your fellow classmates. Ask questions even if the question seems dumb. Get with a classmate who seem to understand what is being taught. Whatever is taught that day, go home and study over that lesson.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because it was a solid base for writing papers that will be useful for my college experience. Candace Becher was a fantastic teacher while I was there, and though she was no nonsense on deadlines, she was incredibly helpful and thorough.

    Course highlights:

After taking this English 12 course, I was excellent at using correct format and citing my work. These two skills are so vital to anyone who wants to write successful papers anywhere. Another thing I had learned indirectly was to get things done in a timely fashion! There were one or two "all nighters", but I quickly figured out that in order to really do my best in this class, I needed to have plenty of time to formulate and refine my essays. This required me to be aware of my deadlines and work in a manageable timetable. All told, this class provided some much-needed discipline that led to successful writing.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Determination is what you need to succeed! It would be easy to become discouraged if you fell behind and work started to pile up.
