    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course to people who are dedicated to their musical skills. This is an ensemble where your commitment level is key. This is a great course for skilled musicians looking for mor performing opportunities.

    Course highlights:

We were able to perform at the 2016 WMEA All-State as the top performance. We also performed at the 2016 MFA National Concert Band Festival. We were among some of the best bands of the nation and it was great to see the variety of music that is played. I learned lots of technical music and then some more lyrical music. I even had the chance to perform an improvised solo.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

You need to be willing to practice your music and know your parts the day your teacher hands them out to you. You need to be dedicated to the program and be available to be at all rehearsals. If you are willing to dedicate your free time to band, this is the course for you.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Union High School has one of the strongest music programs and has been recognized in state, regional and national festivals. At Union the Performing groups include concert band, symphonic band, wind ensemble, jazz ensemble 1 and 2, percussion, pep band and marching band.

    Course highlights:

I gained transferable skills like initiative by organizing sectional days and performing groups rehearsals. You also become independent by becoming responsible to learn and perform your part well and play it with the group well and to the best of your abilities.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

If you are considering auditioning it is important to be aware of your practicing habits and take full responsibility for yourself and your development.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

It is great to be in a group that plays high level music. You get to go to many festivals with other amazing bands. You can also do Percussion, Jazz, football and basketball band. These all add to the wonderful experience.

    Course highlights:

We were able to be apart of the Music For All National Concert Band Festival. Our band performed in front of the highest ranked adjudicators and got to see the best high school bands from around the country. This shows how much work is needed to perform at such a high caliber, and how music education in schools is just as important as any other class offered.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

You really need to be dedicated to the program and the music you are playing. You have to be willing to put in personal practice time and know your music very well no matter how hard it may be. This is definitely not a class you can slack off in. You are expected to put in just as much work as any other class you take.
