Not too easy. Not too difficult.
If you are considering a career related to psychology, abnormal psychology is a must. This course is deep and thought provoking and has an extensive amount of heavy material. I took this class over the course of five weeks and I personally do not feel like it was granted the proper amount of time or attention the topic deserves. I would absolutely recommend this class but take the full twelve week course to allow yourself a more in depth learning through discussions and lessons in class.
The class starts with an overview of how abnormal psychology was viewed in the past vs. the present. It moves into a more clinical understanding and focuses on the models of abnormal psychology and then this class spends the majority of its lesson plan focusing on topics ranging from dissociative disorders to disorders in children and adolescence to sexual disorders and gender identity disorders and then briefly touches on how clinicians can influence the criminal justice system and psychology in law.
Hours per week:
Advice for students:
Be prepared for a moderate to heavy work load in reading, in class discussions and note taking, both in class but more specifically, on your own time. For myself this was a five week course, once a week for six hours. It was extensive and I still feel like it should have been longer. However, if the course is taken at a twelve week session it may be less heavy.
