    | Probably wouldn’t recommend.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Very difficult class if you have trouble visualizing the material, however, with a lot of hard work, dedication, and help from amazing TAs, you can succeed and actually learn a lot. Organic Chemistry is not for everyone, and it is easy to get defeated if you are having trouble grasping a concept, but you must keep trying. Giving up after doing poorly on an exam or quiz will only hurt you in the end, the course is relentlessly cumulative so you must keep persevering.

    Course highlights:

You learn a lot, although it might seem like nonsense at the time. Definitely more intense and in-depth than general chemistry courses. You will learn everything from E1 E2 Sn1 Sn2 reactions to IR Spectra and back to alkenes/alkynes/alkanes.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

You HAVE to be dedicated to this course. It is definitely not an easy A, not even an easy B+. You need to put a lot of time, effort, and tears into this course if you want to succeed.

    | Would recommend.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course to new students because it makes you think outside of norm of rote memorization usually applied by college students. This course helps you become a better learner by being creative when tackling the problems that it presents. Prior to taking that class, I would hope to get by on memorizing before exams. However, this class forced me to change my mechanics. I was forced to deeply understand the material and be able to apply to a plethora of problems. I owe a lot of college success to this course.

    Course highlights:

The fundamentals of organic chemistry is amazing simply because its everywhere. Organic chemistry forms the foundation of our lives. Because of this, I was deeply inspired to understand the fundamentals of this course. Specifically, I learned in much more depth about electro negativities, resonance structures, Substitution reactions, and much more. Overall, the teaching staff along with the course material made it a very enjoyable experience.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Practice problems will give you an A for sure. If you are able to do the problems from the textbook, along with the difficult synthesis problems that they present, then you will breeze through this class. The textbook problems are much harder than the lecture problems and are a great way to learn the material.
