This class was tough.
Course Overview:
I have loved math all of my life. I enjoy both simple and complex computations. However, this course has severely removed this love of mathematics. The class has become a chore and much of the material that I am being taught is unnecessary to understanding the concepts being presented. Calculus is indeed a stepping stone for many courses, and most everyone will be required to take it; however, I would strongly recommend finding a different professor.
Course highlights:
Through this course, I was able to expand my knowledge that I learned in high school math. Although I am not going into a field that requires many of the skills taught in this course, I know that the methods and techniques will prove useful to others going into more math-oriented fields.
Hours per week:
9-11 hours
Advice for students:
Study hard! It's a lot different that most of the math courses you take in high school, and you have to be diligent in reviewing methods both new and old as they become very useful as you venture throughout the class.
Not too easy. Not too difficult.
Course Overview:
Cotterell was honestly the best math teacher I have ever had. His lecture is very organized; he writes everything down on the board so you get really good notes. Quizzes every week, homework due every week, but is manages and helps you do better in the course.
Course highlights:
Cotterell really dives in to Calculus and explains everything in great detail. Instead of telling you how to do a problem, he tells you why it should be done a certain way. I've really gained some profound insight into calculus that I don't think I would have gained without him.
Hours per week:
3-5 hours
Advice for students:
Show up to class. Do the homework. That's all you need to do well!
This class was tough.
Course Overview:
The professor is really fast pace but the course itself felt extremely useful in daily life. To a math nerd like myself, I felt it was still challenging but interesting.
Course highlights:
I learned that Math isn't always about the numbers. It can be about the conceptual images and how/why you have to form them in such a manner.
Hours per week:
6-8 hours
Advice for students:
If you haven't taken calculus before, try and learn some lessons online because this teacher moves extremely fast.
