    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Although this class was very difficult, our professor took time and went into detail about the various topics that we had to learn. If there was something we didn't understand, he would stop and take time to break it down in a way that we could comprehend. There were some pretty difficult topics that we covered, but if you understand the basic mechanisms, breaking down the problem and figuring it out piece by piece made this class a lot easier.

    Course highlights:

The organic lab that is associated with the course was very interesting. Being able to see and conduct an experiment on something you just learned about really helped make learning the topics easier.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Read the textbook. There is only so much you can learn in class and with homework. By reading the book, it help solidify the topics that we had learned in class. Reading the textbook not only helped me learn the vast amount of reactions and chemicals, but also understanding their mechanism of action.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Organic Chemistry is the first time you get to do real chemistry! Specifically the second semester (310) is where you've learned how to speak OChem and can now start to learn the uses. Dr Warner spends so much time making sure you understand things, so when he offers Saturday lectures, GO TO THEM!!

    Course highlights:

The highlights were the development of methods to be able to do well on the tests. Dr Warner walks you through, not just the mechanisms, but also the thought process for organic synthesis. I learned that sometimes you don't need to memorize the best methods, just memorize a few methods really well so that you can use those strengths to get where you need.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

STUDY! This class's concepts are not difficult. The difficulty is in the breadth of knowledge you will be responsible for at the end of the course. That said, make sure you devote the time properly. This is the first class for future doctors that will fully challenge them, and that is simply because most people don't recognize the time commitment that is necessary to succeed in this class.
