    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Business 321 (Money and the Financial System) is a crucial course for any student seeking to get into the financial services industry. Dr. Light is extremely intelligent and offers insight into some challenging concepts one must grasp in order to secure a job in finance. I felt that Business 321 truly built a foundation I could use during my internships with investment firms! I am thankful such a course was offered!

    Course highlights:

I gained insight into the nuances of a plethora of sectors found in the investment industry. Concepts such as Fed Funds Rate, Interest Rates, Repo, Equities, Fixed Income, Options, Swaps, and regulatory rules such as Dodd-Frank, are crucial to providing value to investment firms out of college, and such concepts were taught in Business 321. After taking Business 321, I found that I grasped critical concepts necessary for success within the finance business, because I was exposed to these concepts stated in the classroom.

    Advice for students:

The biggest piece of advice I would give to perspective students is maintain one's discipline. The key to succeeding in Business 321 is to listen and read! Dr. Light goes extremely fast and can be tough to understand sometimes due to his accent, I found that when I intently focused on the power points as he talked, and read the reading material, I grasped the concepts. When I tried to bypass my reading and instead relied on the study guide, i struggled to comprehend the intricacies of each topic. Maintain discipline, and you will do great!
