Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Although speech is a fairly challenging topic for many people, Professor Silverman does an excellent job of boiling down the topic to its core.

    Course highlights:

Some of the highlight of the course are definitely the various types of speeches Professor Silverman has her students do. They keep the topics diverse and keep us from becoming too focused on a single style.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Be prepared to get out there and express your ideas confidently.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Dr Detore-Nakamura was a pleasure to work with. If you're not comfortable speaking in front of a group she will give you exercises to practice to reduce the anxiety of being in front of a crowd. If you are already comfortable being in front of a crowd, she teaches you to present yourself even better.

    Course highlights:

Hearing some of the speeches were quite empowering and informative. I've learned a great amount about the history of army training and how the pyramids were actually power plants capable of using water as fuel.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

If you're not comfortable being in front of people, throw yourself into uncomfortable situations to reduce the anxiety of being under pressure.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would definitely recommend the course to even the most experienced speaker. The professor was very insightful and gave valuable feedback. When I took this course all of my peers seemed to gain comfort within one another when it came to the speeches so there wasn't too much pressure. If you are a nervous speaker, you shouldn't have a hard time finding comfort in the classroom.

    Course highlights:

I gained confidence after every speech, not that I was a terrible speaker before or anything... It just really helps with ease when you publicly speak very often. I also learned some valuable tips that are sure to help me with presentations and speeches to come including how to get and maintain the audiences attention and how to motivate them to do something.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

You need CONFIDENCE mainly and pro activity. There aren't many written assignments, but for both the speeches and the essays, I suggest you start on them as soon as they are assigned. The more you know your work the better you will be able to deliver so cramming isn't a good fit for this course.
