Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I loved this class. The information is not the most interesting to begin with but the way that the professor explains things made it so that I was never bored. He was very engaging and lively. The disposition that he maintained throughout this class and his other courses that he taught (I took 2 others with him) was fantastic. His slides were easy to understand and accessible online. The tests were fair as long as you studied.

    Course highlights:

The highlight of this course for me personally was learning about the different genetic disorders that can occur. Reuther went over those really well and made it interesting.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

I would 100% suggest that you sign up for this course if you need it for your major. Reuther was my favorite professor at UCSD. He genuinely seemed to want to help everyone succeed and that showed in his lectures. The tests and grading were both very fair.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This course was challenging in a good way. It is not a typical memorization class which is what makes it interesting. It truly gave me a good understanding of genetics and it was one of my favorite classes. Doing well on the exams is not too hard if you understand the material and do many example problems, especially the homework problems.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of this course included learning about all of the genetic diseases and learning how far genomics has come. I learned everything from how to predict if a person will have a certain disease to how to detect where the disease may be coming from.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Do a lot of example problems over and over again. Take advantage of the extra credit quizzes by never missing any points. Make sure to do and understand every single assignment. Also, time runs out quicker than normal when taking genetics exams so be careful and make sure you don't take too long solving a problem.
